Flexible Query Answering Systems (FQAS) is the premier conference focusing on the key issue in the information society of providing an average human user an easy, flexible, and intuitive access to information, both stored in databases, and also data warehouses and various huge Internet resources, and also of various forms: numeric, textual and multimedia. This is a very broad research area which is in general highly multidisciplinary and involves, first, computer science and IT related areas like database management systems, database querying, information retrieval, information filtering, knowledge representation, management of multimedia information, artificial and computational intelligence, etc. However, the FQAS-2005 conferences are concerned with more specific aspects of flexible querying, notably related to computer science and database technology.
Moreover, important parts of conference is concerned with general issues of the modeling and coping with uncertainty, and human preference and intention modeling which will provide a much needed link and cross fertilization for the database, information retrieval, decision theoretic, uncertainty and imprecision modeling, psychological, etc. communities. The conference provides a unique opportunity for researchers, developers and practitioners to explore new ideas and approaches in the modern and challenging field of flexible database querying and related topics.
The main topic of the FQAS conferences are innovative query systems aimed at providing easy, flexible and human-friendly access to information. Such systems are becoming increasingly important also due to the huge and always growing number of users as well as the growing amount of available information. Works related to big data, data streams querying etc. will be welcome too.
The FQAS conferences were initiated in 1994 in Denmark, and had been held biannually always gathering leading domain experts and many prominent scientists from all over the world as their plenary lecturers.
The main organizer of FQAS 2015, Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, has been very active in this research area for years, notably Professor Janusz Kacprzyk, AE (Informatics) Member, and Professor Sławomir Zadrożny, who have published many seminal papers on this topic and also have participated at all FQAS conferences since their inception in 1994 and have always been members of the International Program Committee and International Advisory Board members. This active involvement of Professors Kacprzyk and Zadrożny was first recognized by the flexible querying community who asked them to organize the FQAS 2000 in Warsaw. The Conference was a huge success, and last year the research community expressed much interest in the organization of this year FQAS 2015 Conference in Cracow, Poland. The preparations to FQAS-2015 started some 2 years ago and the organizers arranged for the participation in various scientific and advisory committees of top specialists in the field of the conference from all over the world. Notably, a Member of AE (Informatics), Professor Roman Słowiński, has assumed the function of a member of the Advisory and Program Committees.
