International Conference on Global Humanities and the Construction of China’s Independent Knowledge System#

The construction of China’s independent knowledge system is crucial for the world to have a better understanding of China, as well as for Chinese humanities and social sciences to play a more important role in the world. It is a pressing task for scholars from different cultural and disciplinary backgrounds to discuss issues of common interest and to address the emerging questions in the new era. The Institute of Global Humanities, the first teaching and research unit in humanities and social sciences established at Nanjing University's Suzhou Campus, is dedicated to nurturing interdisciplinary studies and supporting cross-cultural dialogue.

As part of this mission, the international conference on “Global Humanities and the Construction of China’s Independent Knowledge System” will be held by the Institute of Global Humanities at the Suzhou Campus of Nanjing University from October 27th to 29th, 2023. This conference gathers scholars from China, Europe, the UK and South America to discuss various issues related to global humanities and the development of Chinese knowledge system in modern times.

The sub-themes of the conference include, but are not limited to:

1. The integration of digital media in literature and art
2. The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in art
3. The interactions in literature and arts across regions and cultures
4. The Chinese perspectives in cross-cultural studies
5. The new trends of interdisciplinary studies
6. The dialogue between different civilizations
7. New theories in the arts and humanities
8. New concepts in recent Chinese scholarship
9. Other forms of comprehensive research


The conference will be hosted by the Institute of Global Humanities, Nanjing University Suzhou Campus, with academic support provided by the School of Arts, School of Foreign Languages, and School of Literature, Nanjing University. It is sponsored by the Academy of Europe and the Global Humanities Network based at Cambridge University. Scholars from all related disciplines are warmly welcome.
