Costal trip in the Vale of Glamorgan to include lunch in the Thatched Blue Anchor Inn at Aberthaw
The coach will be leaving from the front of the National Museum Cardiff, at 08.30 hours prompt. This is due to the trip being tide dependent.
As participants will be walking on a rocky shore which could be slippery, stout footwear will be needed. It is also recommended that you bring a showerproof coat with you in case of inclement weather.
This will involve a coach ride of less than an hour south-west of Cardiff to a large village called Ogmore by Sea. The coastal exposure is mainly Lower Carboniferous limestone (mineralised in part) which is overlain unconformably by Upper Triassic and Lower Jurassic. There is a stop /start walk along the shore - it takes about a half hour walk back. Lunch will then be in the thatched Blue Anchor Inn (a lovely old building) at Aberthaw that is between Ogmore and Cardiff. After lunch, on the way back to Cardiff, you will stop off at a dinosaur footprint locality at Lavernock in the Upper Triassic. There is some Carboniferous there too. The Severn estuary has the second greatest tidal height difference in the world. Please note: exact timings will be subject to summer tides.

GALA DINNER: The 28th Annual Conference Gala Dinner will be held on Tuesday 28th June at 19.15 hours. The venue for the Gala Dinner will be City Hall, Cardiff, (http://www.cardiffcityhall.com/find-us), which is located in the city centre and is within walking distance from all city centre central hotels.
PLEASE NOTE: The cost for the Gala Dinner is NOT included in the Registration Fee. Participants who wish to attend the dinner with a guest should ensure that their guest’s name is also recorded during the registration process and that a ticket is purchased for each attendee. (The cost per ticket is £40.00)
COASTAL VISIT: The cost (£50.00) includes a coastal trip in the Vale of Glamorgan to include lunch in the thatched Blue Anchor Inn at Aberthaw.
